The Bar Harbor Garden Club is proud to announce the establishment of The Peter H. Dolliver Legacy Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to offer financial aid to Applicants who have a strong interest in Farming & Horticulture and are graduates of a Maine high school, with a preference for MDI High School graduates. The scholarship was established by the children of Peter Dolliver (1935-2015), in memory of their father, owner/operator of Deer Meadow Landscapes & Gardens in Manset. In his later years, after his retirement, he found great happiness in tending his market garden, growing fruits and vegetables for appreciative recipients, and was particularly delighted to show young people the magic of growing things. The Dolliver Family is sincerely grateful to those who have contributed to the The Peter H. Dolliver Legacy Scholarship.

Chelsea Alley, the first recipient of The Peter H. Dolliver Legacy Scholarship, was awarded a $500 Scholarship at a small gathering on July 17, 2018. Members of the Dolliver Family and Bar Harbor Garden Club were represented.
The members of the Dolliver Family were delighted to offer this financial assistance and extended their hope that this bright and enthusiastic young woman will successfully inspire people to grow fresh and healthy food in their communities.
The 2018 Recipient: Chelsea Alley, is a resident of Winter Harbor and a Sumner High School graduate. She has completed courses in Conservation Biology and Food Justice. Last year, she was the recipient of the Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship offered by the St. Croix District of the Garden Club Federation of Maine. She has also interned at the Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park and is a volunteer working with “Downeast Opportunities for Change” to establish a community garden in Winter Harbor. Chelsea expects to graduate from Hollins University in 2019 with a degree in Environmental-Horticultural Studies. Following graduation, she’d like to travel to the mid-western U.S. area to promote the use of plants for food & medicine, and the inherent right for all to have access to fresh healthy foods.
