The St. Croix District has awarded the $1,000 Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship to Madison Jones of Lamoine. A graduate of Mount Desert Island High School, Jones is a junior at the University of Maine in Orono where she is majoring in Sustainable Agriculture.
This scholarship aids college students pursuing horticulture-related studies and honors Nell Goff who, in the 1970s and 80s, served as the president of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, the director of the club’s St. Croix District, and the president of the Bar Harbor Garden Club.
The St. Croix District includes the garden clubs of Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Ellsworth, Evergreen, Mount Desert, Pleasant River, Sea Breeze and Surry and is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, the New England Garden Club, and the National Garden Club.
