The Bar Harbor Garden Club is pleased to welcome Ivonne Vasquez of Bas Rouge Farm as the keynote speaker for its Annual Meeting and Luncheon at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 14th at Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Event Center, Bar Harbor. Ms. Vazquez’ presentation will be “Native Plants for Coastal Gardens.” Life sustaining, diverse, and ecologically important, native plants are uniquely adapted to thrive and survive the weather, as well as the soil and growing conditions within our gardens and farms. They provide food, nesting, and cover for wildlife, especially pollinators.
Ms. Vazquez’ native plant nursery and small acreage farm started as the family’s homestead over a dozen years ago. Currently into their fifth year as a farm business, Bas Rouge Farm and Forge has expanded into several enterprises including the Native Plant Nursery, Certified Green Infrastructure Practitioner, and Permaculture & Garden Planning Services. Ivonne is a well-known speaker, writer and teacher throughout New England. She presents gardening content in a user-friendly manner that inspires even fledgling gardeners to dig in!
Prior to Ms. Vazquez’ presentation, the Club will conduct a brief business meeting and enjoy a luncheon buffet. The buffet will be an appetizing selection of “A Taste of Italy” along with dessert and beverages. The cost of the buffet is $40 per person which includes taxes and gratuity. Registration is required to attend the event.
