Kudos to the Civic Development Committee who arranged a passionate and patriotic ceremony to honor our veterans on May 27, 2024, at the Blue Star Marker on Route 3. A long standing tradition with the Bar Harbor Garden Club, we honor and remember the many sacrifices of the courageous who served in the armed services.
Many thanks to Eileen Linnane; Phyllis Mobraaten; Pam Bowie; George Davis, Tom McIntyre, Keith Bowie, Jim Linnane, Barbara MacPike Chaplain of George Edwin Kirk Memorial American Legion Post 25 in Bar Harbor; Jeff Hanscom Commander of Post 25, Chris White and Bob Broussard Post 25 Sergeant at Arms who all participated in the ceremony.
Many thanks to the Bar Harbor Garden Club members, Larry Mobraaten for setting up and taking down the amplifier; Phyllis Mobraaten for suggestions, photography, and behind the scenes support and encouragement; Eileen Linnane for photography, support, and providing a welcoming table of warm beverages and tasty treats;
Jim Linnane for welcoming those attending; and Pam Bowie, Vice President of The Bar Harbor Garden Club, for reading opening remarks on behalf of the Club.
We enjoyed moving remarks with Post Commander Jeff Hanscom and Chaplain Barbara MacPike of the George Edwin Kirk Post 25 Veterans of the American Legion Post in Bar Harbor, who honored those Missing in Action.
We shared heartfelt poems or reflections on personal military experiences. Friendships were being rekindled, new relationships were built and memories exchanged among family and friends.
Thanks and appreciation to The Bar Harbor Police Department for setting up signage and to Sergeant Douglas Brundrettthe who helped to slow down the traffic on busy Route 3.
