Club Projects


These are the Bar Harbor Garden Club’s ongoing projects, unless noted otherwise.

Beatrix Farrand Garden at Garland Farm, Bar Harbor — The Club provides volunteers and supports projects.  Learn about The Library at Garland Farm at their website.


Blue Star Memorial Marker Ceremony and Tree Planting, Bar Harbor  —The Club holds Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies; maintains the memorial marker; and has planted pagoda dogwood trees and daffodil bulbs. The Club provides BHGC Volunteers. Learn more…


Butterfly Garden at Charlotte Rhodes Park, Southwest Harbor —The Club made a donation towards the construction of a garden barn, and gives donations towards the purchase of annuals and perennials for the garden.  Learn more….


Jesup Memorial Library, Bar Harbor —This is a new project to develop a Pop-Up Garden with public benches in anticipation of the Library’s expansion.  The Club made a donation for materials, and will provide volunteers.


Land and Garden Preserve, Northeast Harbor —The Club makes donations to Asticou Azalea and Thuya Gardens which are both located in Northeast Harbor. Visit gardenpreserve.org to learn more.


MDI Housing Authority, Southwest Harbor —This is a new project to restore gardens for the enjoyment of the residents who are either Veterans, disabled or low income.  The Club made a donation for materials, and will provide volunteers.


Mount Desert Historical Heirloom Garden, Somesville — This garden was founded by the BHGC and MDI Historical Society.  The Club supports the garden with volunteers and donations.  Visit mdihistory.org to learn more.


Scholarships —Inge Weber Memorial Scholarship, Nell Goff Memorial Scholarship, Peter H. Dolliver Legacy Scholarship, and the Student Conservation Association. Learn more…


Valentine Tray Favors — Floral themed Valentine tray favors are presented to residents of Birch Bay Village.


Wacky Wednesday Weeders, Hulls Cove ANP Visitor Center — This was a collaboration initiated by two club members to revive the landscaped Islands of the Visitor Center Parking area.  The volunteers included members from our Club, FOA Trail Crew and one park visitor.  The project was approved and supervised by Acadia National Park. 


Wild Gardens of Acadia at Sieur de Monts Spring, Bar Harbor  — These gardens were founded in 1961 by the Bar Harbor Garden Club and Acadia National Park.  The Club makes a donation for garden support.  The Club also provides BHGC Volunteers.   Learn more…


SCHOOLS:  CONNORS EMERSON ELEMENTARY, FRENCHBORO, MOUNT DESERT ELEMENTARY, PEMETIC ELEMENTARY, TREMONT CONSOLIDATED, TRENTON ELEMENTARY AND MDI HIGH SCHOOLS —The Club makes a donation towards five school Greenhouses, and continues our 4 year Arbor Day Tree Plantings at 5 MDI and Trenton schools. The Club also provides BHGC Volunteers.


“Youth Activities” — The Bar Harbor Garden Club supports and sponsors a range of Youth Activities in the local community focusing on gardening, birding, creative arts, language arts, and environmental awareness.  Learn more…
