The first two recipients of the Inge C.B. Weber Memorial Scholarship were announced at a small gathering on April 18, 2016. Both students are juniors attending the College of the Atlantic. Members of the Weber Family and Bar Harbor Garden Club, as well as the College of the Atlantic were represented.
The purpose of the scholarship is to offer financial aid to those who are interested in majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design or botany. Applicants must be graduates of MDI High School, or be attending a 2-year or 4-year accredited college or university.
The Weber Family established the scholarship in memory of Inge, who was a former President of the Bar Harbor Garden Club and is remembered for her volunteer service to the Bar Harbor and MDI community.
Helmut Weber was delighted to make the presentation and extended his hope that these two bright and enthusiastic young people would fulfill their dreams of pursuing a career in Landscape Architecture and Design. Each student will be awarded $500.
The 2016 Recipients are:
Ezra Hallett, a native of ME and a Mount Desert Island High School graduate. He has completed courses in Community Planning and Landscape Architecture, and would like to someday explore Urban and National Parks found on the West Coast. He will be working as a summer intern at the Asticou Azalea Garden updating their garden maps, among other things.
Peter Kennell, a native of Eureka, IL who believes his interests in art, sculpture and gardening will be good assets as he pursues a career in Landscape Architecture. He’s currently studying how to use some software technology at Coplon Associates, a landscape architecture and planning firm, and will work there this summer as an intern.
