Gardening Weed Wisdom Program

The Bar Harbor Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at Birch Bay Village Inn on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1 p.m.

Please join us for our “Weedy Wisdom” program presented by Terry-Anya Hayes —Writer, Educator, Herbalist, Forager and past president of the New York Mycological Society.

Believe it or not, those pushy plants that invite themselves into our gardens have more to offer than just the hard work of pulling them up. To the gardener who learns to read their messages, even the daisy is more than a pretty face, and the dandelion, burdock and a crowd of other ‘gate crashers’ can convey important information about the health of soil and how to improve it.

Through tips and photos you’ll learn the secrets of a dozen common garden invaders, as well as which ones to toss immediately and which may deserve a stay of execution — or, since a few are remarkably tasty, perhaps a plot of their own!

This meeting is open to the public, but non-members are asked to reserve a seat (E-mail: rsvp@BarHarborGardenClub.com, TEL: 244-1116). Refreshments will be served.

Please check out all of our scheduled 2017 programs. The Bar Harbor Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
