Kebo Valley Club, Bar Harbor
Incorporating Organic Gardening Techniques
Beech Hill Farm production practices will be discussed at the Bar Harbor Garden Club’s Annual Meeting Luncheon on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Kebo Valley Club.
Beech Hill Farm, owned and operated by College of the Atlantic, is a MOFGA-certified organic farm. The 73-acre property includes six acres of fields in vegetable production, three small heirloom apple orchards, pasture land for pigs and poultry, five greenhouses, and open forest.
Our keynote speakers (Anna Davis and David Levinson) co-manage Beech Hill Farm. Their presentation will focus on greenhouse production, soil management, weed and pest management and season extension, and how to apply our production practices to a small-scale vegetable garden.
David Levinson attended Evergreen State College in Washington State, majoring in Agroecology. Since graduating in 2009, David has worked for the Organic Seed Alliance and on numerous organic vegetable farms in Oregon, Washington, Rhode Island and Western Massachusetts. Anna graduated from Hampshire College in 2011 with a degree in Environmental Sociology. After graduating, Anna spent time working as a community organizer in community gardens in Brooklyn before moving back to Western Massachusetts to start farming. Anna farmed for two large-scale, organic CSA farms in the Pioneer Valley, before accepting the job at Beech Hill Farm in 2014. This will be Anna and David’s second season managing Beech Hill Farm together.
YOU’LL NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION TO ATTEND THIS PRESENTATION AND TO SELECT YOUR MEAL BY MAY 3rd. Luncheon cost includes Entrée, Beverage, Dessert & Tip: $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
