The Bar Harbor Garden Club welcomes Sandra Leonard, Ikebana Designer and National Garden Club Accredited Master Flower Show Judge, as the guest speaker for their September meeting on Thursday, September 11th at Birch Bay Retirement Village, Bar Harbor. Ms. Leonard’s presentation will highlight Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The principles of Ikebana arrangements focus on simplicity, asymmetry, and balance.
Ms. Leonard studied under Ikebana masters while living in Tokyo and her designs often carry the feeling and spirit of the Orient. She arranges flowers for competitions, is a National Accredited Master Judge and has judged flower shows throughout the Northeast, including the Philadelphia Flower Show.
Ms. Leonard grew up in Bangor and she is a member of the Boothbay Region Garden Club. She has given many flower arranging classes and workshops throughout Maine, and the Bar Harbor Garden Club is pleased to have Ms. Leonard demonstrate this unique and meaningful form of flower arranging to its members and guests.
Ms. Leonard’s presentation will begin at 1:00 P.M. and will include time for questions.
The Bar Harbor Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine, New England Garden Clubs, Inc. and National Garden Clubs, Inc.
This Ikebana demonstration is one of the monthly programs offered by the Bar Harbor Garden Club that is open to the public.
