“Every year, the National Garden Clubs sponsor a poetry contest for youth across the United States. This year’s theme was “I Spy With My Little Eye, Something Green Outside – Celebrating Our Green World.”
Congratulations go to nine year old Skyler Ehrlich of Bar Harbor, Maine, who has taken THIRD PLACE IN THE 2023-2024 NATIONAL POETRY CONTEST.
“Skyler, who has is a student at the Community School, received the prize for her poem “A Hopeful World”. Her poem took first place out of all participating schools in the Mount Desert Island Regional School System. The local contest was sponsored by the Bar Harbor Garden Club. Her poem was then sent on to the State, then National Garden Clubs, Inc.
A Hopeful World
I spy, with my little eye,
A bright sunrise, with graceful light,
That fills my heart with hope, love and peace.
I spy, with my little eye,
A beautiful ocean,
And how graceful the waves are,
And the beautiful trees.
Oh, this world with hope, love and peace.
It might be kind of at war now,
But we can help.
