Wildlife in Winter

The Bar Harbor Garden Club is pleased to welcome David Lamon, Maine Audubon’s Director of Northern Programs and Operations as the guest speaker for its January meeting on Thursday, January 8th at Birch Bay Retirement Village, Bar Harbor. Mr. Lamon’s presentation will focus on Maine’s wildlife and the specific strategies that are used by various species to survive Maine’s harsh winter conditions. Despite the cold and our preference to stay inside and warm, there is a lot of wildlife activity at this time of year, so Mr. Lamon’s talk will also provide tips for exploring nature in winter.
David is deeply passionate about natural history and connecting people to the natural world. His explorations of Mount Desert Island first began in the late 1980’s as a student at College of the Atlantic. As an Acadia National Park Ranger during the early 1990’s, David helped visitors understand the unique ecology of our coastal habitats. He has an accomplished record of conservation projects locally, which includes starting the Mount Desert Island Loon Monitoring Project, the Somesville Fish Passage Restoration Project, and the Long Pond drainage water quality stewardship program. Mr. Lamon works at the Fields Pond Audubon Center located in Holden and Orrington. This facility includes a Nature Center, the 191-acre Fields Pond, and a 229-acre sanctuary with trails winding through fields, wetlands, forest, and along the pond.
Mr. Lamon’s presentation will begin at 1:00 P.M. and will include time for questions.
